people have managed to install windows xp on much newer systems with good success, even the Haswell (4th gen Intel) drivers exist afaik, even for the IGP.

I think the AGP 775 boards support 98 as well as the later 478 ones no (and 754/939)? and you get possibly better/cooler CPUs. at least the 2 AGP 775 boards that I have, are pretty much the same as a 478 board with AC97 audio and whatnot, (asus with 865PE chipset and gigabyte with the VIA p4m800pro …

I would consider also the GTX 460 plenty of speed for the time, far more common and not as high on power like the 480. the 460 wasn't far from the 5850.

I had both xp sp2 and 98se on my coppermine 1.1GHz + FX 5900se I mostly used 98 but XP is nicer for network use, and I did play some games that made more sense on XP,

it's going to be fast for early 2000 games and older, a little on the low end side for 2007 games but still runs plenty of things OK. but it's cool that it's a custom build left as it was back then 😀 if you have access to compressed air it will take you like 30 seconds to make it look clean.
