Re: Looking for a WW2 planes/dogfight game for WinXp

In the interest of driving this thread even further off-topic (sorry Buckeye), what are you looking for? Check this link: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3648350/re-rowans-mig-alley-latest-patch#Post3648350 In that post, Thingol mentions a "BDG Keyboard Manager". The link is long dead …

Before anybody gets their panties all twisted up: The WW2 Fighters Base Mods CD contains no commercial or copyrighted content. It is all fan-created mods for WW2 Fighters. It is not illegal to share it. The creators of the disc encouraged users to share it. At one time, there were download links on …

OK, I've located my copy of the Base Mods CD. However, it looks like PogoPlug went tits-up in November of last year without any notification or warnings. Nice. So, without PogoPlug I no longer have any free cloud storage. I checked my disc and it has Rammjager's P51D V1 mod on it. That's OK though, …

Re: My 3DMark01 Mega Thread

I recently upgraded my old IBM ThinkPad T60 laptop's CPU and did four 3DMark2001SE before-and-after performance benchmarks to see what would happen. 2x2Gb Elpida PC2 6400, DDR2 666 - 3GB usable - Dual Channel Mode 5-5-5-15-21 ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 Graphics 128Mb RAM Windows 7 Pro SP1 x86 32-bit …

Re: I'm Looking for a List of Software That Can Make a Full Disk Backup of Windows 98 SE and XP that Runs on Modern OSes

KT7AGuy, when I tried using Clonezilla to clone my P3's system's hard drive (has Win98SE on it) to an external hard drive, whenever it was done, and I made it check to see if it was "restorable" (the image of the drive, that is), it said it wasn't, and as a result of running that action, it screwed …

Re: I'm Looking for a List of Software That Can Make a Full Disk Backup of Windows 98 SE and XP that Runs on Modern OSes

I usually prefer Ghost v6.x or v7.x for DOS and Win9x. Ghost v8.x for Win2K & WinXP is very good. Ghost v11.x for WinVista and Win7 is also very good. I was recently tasked with preserving a client's ancient Ubuntu Linux system and I came across a better way of doing things. Many users here on …

Re: Which Voodoo card to buy ?

Banshee is a cut-down version of Voodoo2. It's more of a VGA'd souped up version of the original Voodoo Graphics, done right... Most of V2's additional registers are not found in the Banshee or the rest of the Voodoo lineup. Interesting. I didn't know this. Will a Banshee work with static-link DOS …

Re: ATI Radeon 9000 on Win98. Best driver version?

Win9x v45.23 NVIDIA drivers work with both FX 5900 Ultra and Quadro FX 3000 cards. They can also be made to work with 5950 Ultra cards by adding/changing hardware IDs. Thanks for the info regarding R200 vs R300 9xxx series cards. I was ignorant of that. I had assumed that the OP meant he was using a …

Re: ATI Radeon 9000 on Win98. Best driver version?

I'm sure this isn't what you want to hear, but here I go anyway: In my experience, there isn't a "best" Radeon R300 driver for Win9x. There isn't even a good one. They're all mediocre. The Omega drivers might be an improvement, but I found those to be only slightly less flaky than the official …

I finished Halo tonight. It's not a bad game at all. I really enjoyed many parts of it. Highlights - Driving the tank. - Driving either model of the Covenant floating scooters. - Large, exciting, wide-open epic battles on huge maps. - The ending was truly exciting. - Sergeant Johnson - The shotgun …

Re: 3D Positional Surround Sound

Falconsoft, tgod, I finally got around to testing Deus Ex again. You were both correct on this matter, so I wanted to acknowledge you and thank you for your comments. DD/DTS onboard decoding settings had no effect whatsoever. What did have an effect was disabling "Hardware 3D Support" in the Deus Ex …

There should be an option in the driver settings for enabling/disabling SLI mode. Even running on a single V2, EAW in GLIDE mode may be just as smooth as D3D mode on your GF3, but you're limited to 800x600 resolution. Beyond 1024x768, fonts become difficult to read. I recommend the FastVoodoo2 …

buckeye, European Air War is happiest on a Win9x system. It and Red Baron 3D are the primary reasons I keep my old Win98SE systems going. While you can get it to run under XP with unofficial patches, nothing is guaranteed. Also, it uses 8-bit palletized textures and fog table, so you don't want to …
