Re: My FIRST Slot A build!

I actually ended up going with Windows 98 SE on it, mainly because I want to run a few older games: NFS2 SE Oddworld NFS Porsche 2000 NFS Hot Pursuit 2 Carmageddon 2 Rollcage and a few more games that run better on 98SE. For a 2k machine, the specs would be between the K6-2 - Pentium 3 range, and XP …

My FIRST Slot A build!

Re: XP and 98 rigs

For 1GB of ram under 98SE, highly recommend to use the Vcache patch by Xeno86, 3DMark2001 SE doesn't work without it for me. Any reason why he limited to 384MB? Why not 512MB or 1GB? 2GB might have been the max on most motherboards at the time. Was there a step by step write up on what Xeno86 did …

Re: MV's three retro PC builds

OST is the Brand and RLX is the Series of the Brand. Would look something like this on the sleeve: OST 2200UF 6.3V RLX 105*C That would be the caps for filtering the low side (5v or even less I think) of the CPU VRM. Unless you'll encounter problems (like Windows not installing, memtest failing or …

appiah4 wrote: There's also that not all 440BX mainboards support RAM larger than 128MB per DIMM slot. I know mine works with PC133 but does not recognize 256MB sticks, for example (according to its manual..). In my case it would count 64MB out of a PC133 128MB stick.

Re: 2k machine

Normally, VIA 694x is not my personal recommendation since its poor compatibility on hardware and relatively lower performance comparing to intel's chips, even it has larger memory capacity. And if u want a motherboard with native ISA slot support (ISA support has officially been removed from intel …
