Re: XP retro build

Just had a conversation with someone else on Facebook. I might score another mobo - an ASRock P4i65G,and also I might score a MSI 845E Max/Winfast A340 (FX5200) combo on Wednesday. :D As for the current P4 rig - I finished installing systems on both HDDs...however I have a problem. The 80GB is …

Re: XP retro build

just set the bus speed to 215 to get 3 Ghz, but don't forget the RAM will be overclocked as well so make sure the RAM will handle it unless you can downclock the RAM. Another tip, don't overclock a Northwood too much and/or abuse of it because it can suffer the "Sudden Northwood Death Syndrome" …

Re: XP retro build

Just a little warning about DEER power supplies, they like to pop and then smoke. I took care to recap and upgrade stuff inside this one.It looks like the one in this pic, except I replaced every cap on the low voltage (DC) side and standby zone. http://www.vogons.org/download/file.php?mode=view&id= …

Re: XP retro build

why the 3450? I'd nab a faster cpu for the system if you can. I have some problems with the 1650 at the moment. As for the fastest CPU for this platform,I have a 3GHz Prescott, but knowing those 8IPE1000 motherboards are a bit fragile last time I tried a Celeron D with,I wouldn't risk it. (it puts …

Re: XP retro build

Upgraded the specs. Does this still count as a XP build? Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 1GB RAM ASUS Radeon HD 3450 512MB AGP Modecom Feel III FEEL-400ATX (Deer is the OEM) Realtek RTL8139C NIC Winfast TV2000XP Deluxe TV Tuner Maxtor 6Y080L0 80GB & Samsung SP0411N 40GB (both IDE) Hitachi-LG GCR-8481B CD …

Re: XP retro build

Decided to build a 2nd XP machine from whatever parts I had. Specs: 256MB RAM Windows XP Home Edition SP3. This might prove to be a painful experience  I'd put 2x1GB DDR-400 in the board, overclock the XP2500+ to 2.2GHz (provided yours is a 333MHz FSB Barton) and use a GF6800 or so. Without …

XP retro build

Decided to build a 2nd XP machine from whatever parts I had. Re: My "nostalgia rig"

Is there any healer around here ? Pretty soon this board will take my CPU with her. I can feel it. Well, one thing that will quite surely prolong its life to infinite and beyond (I can't believe I'm saying this  ) might be replacing the capactiors (ECS/Pcchips are known for using G-Luxon/Teapo …

Re: That one Armada E500...

Reminds of the Armada M700 that looked almost similar except it was slimmer. I think we had one E500 amongst 100+ M700 and M300 that sadly went to recycling two years ago after been stored for several years. Last year just as many Compaq EVO N600c saw the same fate :dead: Luckily i saved a couple …

That one Armada E500...

Thought I might as well show it here. It's a Compaq Armada E500 I got for cheap (10RON) along with a Canon adapter (seriously...)that had two outputs, both rated at 13v 1.8A each, while the laptop was rated at 18v 2.5A. Oh boy. Anyways not really powerful but it's quite fast. 650MHz Pentium III ( …
