Re: Sound Blaster 16 Bugs and Deficiencies Summary

It's not much of a practical issue, though. Essentially, games that lacked SB16 stereo support didn't use stereo. Is that true? Then why did so many games that didn't support the SB16 still have separate "Sound Blaster" and "Sound Blaster Pro" options to choose from in their install/setup programs? …

Re: ESD and you

ESD causes anxiety and paranoia, very much like hygiene. There's a healthy common sense level of precautions, but some people do get just overly occupied. Industrial environments take these things to practical extremes because they require all the added insurance. That said, I'm personally super …

Re: Wolfdale Pentium

I'm sure there is some susceptibility -- the 775i65G is a small board with fewer mounting points and probably a cheap thin construction. Pretty happy with the compact NH-U9S heatsink here; all fans under 1000 rpm and the cores still remain under 60C in Prime95. Tested each of the two 1 GB DIMM's …

Re: What is a 3D accelerator?

Usefulness of voodoo cards are over rated esp in relation to the price.. It is really very short period between ca 1996-2000 ish they are king. It is a period of just a few years, but 1996-2000 is the entire Win9x era in essence. :) 3dfx is never overrated for hardware targeting 1996-1998 3D games. …

Re: Sound Canvas comparison project

Sounds very interesting. I'd be happy to participate with my SCC-1 sound card in any way that's helpful. 😀 Recording gear and methods will impact the audio samples, so it'll be good to attach some of that information to all the recordings.

Re: A DVI-VGA conflict in Windows 98?

How are you separating issues to do with the card, drivers and hw/sw interplay or corruptions from issues to do with the DVI? You're using the DVI output of a DVI+VGA card and encountering reproducible(?) issues, and comparing to using the same card with the VGA out?

Re: Is there Anyone "Overpaying" for Hardware and Proud of it? Well, maybe not Proud, but...

I don't think I had any fantastic deals for the retro items I've collected... It took a long time to find stuff for the right price even at that time, several years ago, before the heated market. Paid a fair amount of money for everything. A couple instances of good deals on great items were with …

Re: Dual cpu/core and windows 9X/ME

Well, that's the question. What is this software that can't run on anything better that needs to run in parallel processes? I can see someone could have a purpose for a Win9x exclusive version of some old productivity software, but what's the other simultaneous task that has to be done specifically …
