There's a ton of good stuff to pick from, depending a bit on your CPU. Serious Sam: The First/Second Encounter, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, No One Lives Forever, Thief II, Deus Ex, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, Rally Trophy, Rollcage Stage II, Screamer 4x4, etc.

98SE comes with DX6, original 98 and the game have DX5. I think the later graphics card might be happier with at least DX 7.0a installed.

Rev 1.5 is squarely parallel to 486SV2G(X4) 2.0 and BIOS compatible with it. I don't know what the 1.2 revision looks like, but I guess you've shown that the BIOS that brings official 5x86 compatibility won't work with older revs. Also, the non-X4 SVGO/SV2G is missing support for CPU voltages below …

Well, are you displaying it or planning to sell it for profit? If not, I don't see any reason to keep things sealed. Personally, shrink-wrapped boxes are just embarrassing to me, and I very rarely sell anything.

I think the Intel Application Accelerator package is for later chipsets; the 400 series has the INF Update Utility and the Bus Master IDE driver I guess included in it.

Definitely prefer a spinning drive, something that gives the system a proper thinking noise of some kind. I wouldn't trust old drives in the long term, of course. Better keep things backed up elsewhere.

Yes it did, that was what made the difference. I also had the disk controller on the 40 MHz VL bus, but I don't recall removing it making any difference in stability.

There are a couple other similar options for the same service, but MediaFire's standard is hard to beat. A good user experience, few limitations and very fast at no cost. They've been around for a long time, too. Very stable.

Problematic for sure. It's fortunately pretty rare that you specifically need to extract the subchannel, apart from Securom. Securom employed a subchannel signature, but it wasn't used for much of anything otherwise. Seems to be impossible to validate good copies and distinguish surface damage there …
