Uniflash alternatives

Hello everyone, I'm looking for alternatives to uniflash, so that I can flash a small binary to a specific part of the the chip (uniflash will only work with files the same as the flash chip and only if it is recognized). I was thinking that maybe such software exists not only for DOS, but also even …

Re: Doom slowdowns on a Toshiba 2800-S202

I suppose bad sectors on the hard disk might cause the issue because the disk will keep retrying until a timeout is reached. But this would probably last longer than a fraction of a second. I had a similar experience on a HP OmniBook, though. (P3 1GHz so similar age.) The battery wasn't holding a …

Re: Doom slowdowns on a Toshiba 2800-S202

im asking about total extended memory, not how much ram You have; also smartdrv 4096, 8192, 16384 is incorrect - smartdrv C 4096 4096 but make sure there is a lot of extended memory available, a least 16 megs What's the output of "mem", btw? Memory Type Total Used Free ---------------- -------- …

Re: Doom slowdowns on a Toshiba 2800-S202

do You run from dos or from windows? did You try to set XMS memory to 16 megs or more and smartdrv C 4096 4096? do You have some disk overlay stuff running or any other exotic drivers? I tried both from dos (msdos.sys BootGUI=0) with no config.sys and no autoexec.bat, and also from within windows …

Re: Doom slowdowns on a Toshiba 2800-S202

In Win98, make sure DMA is enabled for the hard disk and that no real-mode drivers are loaded, which may force 16-bit access. I think the real-mode drivers should show up in the "Performance" tab of System Properties, right? I see "Your system is configured for optimal performance". Everything is …

Doom slowdowns on a Toshiba 2800-S202

This is a Pentium 3 700 MHz (7x100) computer, 256 MB RAM, Win98 SE. Everything works but strangely the newer DOS games have problems that seem to be related to hard-disk speed or something. I disabled power-saving and everything is set to "performance" in the BIOS options. Still, when running doom ( …

Re: Quake in DOS 640x480 FPS

It is indeed very satisfying to have it running so smoothly and in high res, it's charming. I ended up using the P3-1.4S + MSI 694T + Voodoo3 3000 8 MB + SB16: Fastvid 800x600 = 74,3 FPS The P4 let me down: P4 3GHz + ASUS P4P800-E + NVIDIA 6600 256 MB + SB Live SB0100 Fastvid 800x600 = 58.5 FPS Most …

Re: Quake in DOS 640x480 FPS

I'm sorry for posting in the wrong forum. Anyway, for those who care and helped, I finally played all Quake with fastvid without any problems, flawlessly. It looks great at 800x600. Fastvid really makes a difference for high resolution playing in pure DOS. I'll start evangelizing about its benefits.

Quake in DOS 640x480 FPS

I want to play the original Quake in 640x480 in pure DOS (6.22) I tried ver. 1.01, 1.06 and 1.08 and I can't get 60 FPS or more with 640x480 resolution. I tried using a P3 1.4 GHz, and even a P4 3 GHz, but I don't get more than 36 FPS. Did you ever get more than this FPS in pure DOS at 640x480? What …
