The ones without a motherboard I store in a "small" box. It goes like 10 cpus in one level. I put just an ordinary office A4 paper between levels. The ones that I use most frequently are on the top. But it would be nice to have a real CPU storage trays.

It should beep. But this is not always the case. Pentium almost for certain has EDO ram which is very rarely supported on 486 boards. So you should get FPM 72-pin memory from somewhere. One piece is enough for testing.

Upgrading memory won't do any difference by itself. But it will get noticed when using many programs at once. But now-a-days you won't be using this old machine do to some major work in Photoshop, CorelDraw... that would actually benefit from more memory.

Cache usage in Win9X is very poorly optimized. It caches everything... if you don't limit it and do some copying. It will use all the available ram for the copied files cache and the system will begun swapping real memory to a disk. This is not how a cache should work. 16MB is plenty for Win9X but …

Is there any real use of them? I never had one. Now I see they cost around 5-10€ (internal IDE or external LPT) for 100MB or 250MB units. But I'm not sure if there is any use of them. All my retro computers have at least CD-ROM, some CF2IDE adapters.

Huh... interesting things you got there in the U.S. of A. 😉 Here we pay like 40% of the bill for electricity itself and the rest are different taxes. The electricity is 50% cheaper at night rate which is from 22:00 till 06:00 (10PM to 6AM). I usually pay around 30-35€ a month total.
