Indeed. Go to your Windows directory and run setup. Then you select VGA for video, exit and run Windows.

Cache is always good. But with new hardware or CF cards you already reach the transfer limit. So cache won't speed up anything. But you really should test for your self. There were also ISA cards from Promise with cache. I have one but haven't really done any tests with it yet... maybe in the next …

Maestro 32/96 should work just fine. Check the cards settings and select the same in DOOM setup.

I flashed it anyway on the board with 5V chip 🤣 The chip works fine on the board I used to flash it. But on the original there is a "Keyboard not present error". Could the wrongly flashed chip be the culprit?

Eh... you need 1024Kb cache chips. With 512Kb you only get 256KB. Tag is fine.

My 30-pin simms: There are many simms already installed on my 286/386/486 motherboards - probably a half of these on the photo. Photos of EDO, SDRAM, DDR... modules maybe some time later...

I started with 286/16 and this is/was my base line. One time I used an XT for an hour or so... I was glad I had a 286 🤣 That's also why I don't have any desire of having pre-286 PC stuff. It's just too slow...
