Re: Multiple Virtual PCs and Co-op Gaming

in PC Emulation
I have built such a thing, not for the same reasons, and there are variables. I use qemu-kvm with vfio passed hardware. The specifics of motherboards will allow/disallow things depending on details you can't really figure out until you try the hardware. Everything depends on how the IOMMU groups …

Re: Can any emulator emulate itself?

in Milliways
Emulation that relies on virtualization features of the CPU will not work this way. For example, it would not be possible for a KVM guest to itself run KVM completely within the virtual machine. ??? Yes you can. Yes, the vt- stuff does work nested, kvm can run in a vm provided by kvm, and even …

Re: Can any emulator emulate itself?

in Milliways
Nested = Y To suck up massive memory I once ran SC4 on XP, where the XP was running in VirtualBox, which was running in a Live DVD of Debian, in turn running in a KVM based VM on a bare metal Debian hypervisor. 100% transient entirely in RAM, the XP 'disk' and the CD image as a virtual CD, all in ~ …

Re: VM for my grandmother

in PC Emulation
I've done much of this stuff over the last year. It seems the focus here is windows based, but I would make a careful evaluation of what os's are needed for what functionality and see where that goes. I use qemu/kvm vit-manager style vm's on debian and it will definitely do what you'd like, but …

Re: How to sell collections?

in Milliways
I think I'll try to sell the board complete (IT5H/233/128) as the most desirable piece and tier some freebies for higher bids. That way someone can buy up out of the pieces I have. Even today, if I wanted a MMX computer this might still be top on my list for a single socket. It was a nice weekend so …

Re: How to sell collections?

in Milliways
Thanks for the advice. DonutKing said what I thought, more request to part out than bids. And building it is the fun part. As mentioned shipping is a pain with weight, and I've shipped a 20" and two 24" for about the bid price. This computer is an all steel slide out MB variety and will weigh a bit …

How to sell collections?

in Milliways
Yes, vogons is no marketplace and I will not make this an add. But, I wonder how to sell things with consideration of how people want them. As in, whole and complete functional computers, lots of like items, or pieces? I don't care to much about specific values, what yields the best, etc, but …

Re: scsi plextor dos utils

in DOS
I seem to remember switches for PLEXTOR.SYS for a cartridge load 4X scsi, and some cd player that did it on a Pioneer changer? Can't find any reference though...

Re: IL-2, Pacific Fighter, ETC on new GPU's

in Windows
All right, I fixed it. I made a second hardware profile, named it FX1500, found drivers much newer than the W2K drivers so it would be a fair test, let catalyst complain about some foreign GPU and ran the Quadro through the same paces that BSOD every time on the 7750 and what do you know... I've …

Re: IL-2, Pacific Fighter, ETC on new GPU's

in Windows
Indeed, having something maximized on the second screen causes the bsod on start of either game. Why using DirectX other than OGL waits to bsod on close is funny, but, with nothing active on that second monitor and all is fine. Minor issue I guess.

Re: IL-2, Pacific Fighter, ETC on new GPU's

in Windows
Strange, it fixed itself, so far. I'm using 12.8, and without changing any settings I noticed some strangeness from some other older full screen games and got on the windowed path... almost everything looks better and has less delay windowed rather than full screen. But I hate switching modes, like …
