To report back, everything does work but the problem is my setup. My monitor is an Ultrawide 2560x1080 and over HDMI and depending on the video card, it might not work well. Nevermind. Looks like it doesn't like using DVI to HDMI cable AFTER the driver loads. Unfortunately, my main monitor only has 2x HDMI and Dispaly Port. I'll have to find a workaround OR try my GTS 250.

What I did was to use the CD and install just the drivers, which installs the WDM drivers and then reboot. Go in to the Creative folder, run the utility there to switch to VxD, reboot. After that I installed just the diag utility and the EAX Console.

I got a Audigy 2 ZS and I got the ISO from the Vogons driver library. I see that I should go to audio\drivers on the cd/iso and run CTZAPXX.exe for the VxD drivers. Anything else beyond that? Any of the software usefull or just crapware?

It's not an option, only D3D and Software rendering but there is not glide/3dfx option. This is for the full retail. I have come across some mentioning that it was an option on the demo but not the retail.

I just like the option to but only to 3500 levels and only after a fan mod. IIRC, the 3000 and 3500 are the same chip?

Do they come with the overclocking ability? I tried them before and I could not find the option but I cannot say I looked hard. The x3dfx 3rd party drivers have an overclock.exe that enables an overclocking tab.

I think I'm just going to have to listen to gun fire and growls and more on the AWE64 and the Audician 32. I've done the music test but not the sound effects. There is also digitized voice to consider as well.

You can go as far as a Geforce FX series PCI card. You can get DVI that way and use DVI to HDMI cables. You could pair that with a Voodoo 2 card if you want to add voodoo support. If you go that route, you lose DVI/HDMI except through pricey adapters cause you'll be stuck with VGA.
