Re: Fan restoration on early 2000's graphics cards

I bought a very similar one for my Radeon 9800 Pro. It didn't help much since that card died after a year anyway - those were powerful cards but REALLY bad lifespans. At the time, this fan seemed ENORMOUS to me compared to the regular ones. Yeah i noticed that the 9000 pro series dies like no …

Re: Fan restoration on early 2000's graphics cards

I ended up adding a Zalman VF700-Cu on my GF4 but for the geforce 2 GTS i took the passive square heatsink of a geforce 4 MX applied it on the GF2 and then added a custom 50mm fan to it. Re: Were you ever hurt by a computer?

in Milliways
Yes, it's a vicious species, they cut really well especially when you work on the entrails, I discovered that the heatsink is an especially perilous parasite inhabiting the average PC, if you press it too much it can release a ferocious and quite wicked attack that will cut your finger's skin.

Re: Voodoo 3 Velocity 100\200 and drivers

I solved the problem myself and did something that i couldn't find online, i edited the V3 2000 BIOS to have the same memory parameter of a velocity, now my V3 velocity behaves identically to a V3, drivers included. If you want to mod your velocity and never worry again about enabling TMUs and …

Re: percentage of old PCs and components that are saved?

in Milliways
go to any recycling center and you will find "rare and expensive" components galore. And promptly be told they cant be sold to you for some BS reason (even if you offer many times the scrap value) Here it's because the dump "pays" you (as a discount on garbage tax), up to a certain amount per year, …

Re: percentage of old PCs and components that are saved?

Last year i was helping to clean the local seminary for my diocese, i opened a door and found a room literally (and i truly mean it) wall to wall packed with P4 of all kinds, complete builds, i think even the monitors were in there. I went into a "I gotta save them" mentality but at the end i left …

Re: Is Deus Ex supposed to be so slow in Glide?

in Windows
no, that'd be about fillrate (is there multi-texturing?) and detail textures cut off after a certain distance. A period correct system running Deus Ex chokes the CPU on the unrealscript processing (floating stuff in water, birds and rats, npcs patrolling and interacting, all in a big place) on top …
