Re: Running 3dMark 2000 on modern hardware

in Windows
It's possible to apply compatibility mode to apps on network shares through Microsoft's Application Compatibility Toolkit. Actually you don't even need the full Windows compatibility mode, just "GlobalMemoryStatusLie" and a parameter of 1536 for instance should be enough. Two other bits of feedback …

Thanks teleguy. With your patch I no longer get the "4MB or more video memory" error but instead get a similar error "3dMark2000 requires 64MB of memory to be able to run." Any chance you can further patch it to work around systems with multiple gigabytes of memory? Using Windows 98 or XP …

Re: Viper Racing vs modern graphics card!

The "Limit available resources" one? Description in manual is too vague, does it caps DX video memory size? It affects 3 things: 1) available (free) cluster sectors on HD - limit to 16000 2) global memory: all six values for total/available physical/virtual/pagefile memory are set to a big enough …

Glad to be of help! Personally, I'd enjoy some details about what was the problem and how you circumvented it. Even a short description could be helpful to someone, as you can see for yourself ;). The problem seems to be pretty similar to the Nascar situation in that the reported vram is to big to …

Re: Viper Racing vs modern graphics card!

It's a bug in the video card detection routine that triggered when video memory size reported by DirectDraw is close to 4Gb. Nascar Heat is built on the same engine and exhibits the same problem. I've managed to patch the Nascar Heat to fix this bug, and it looks like this patch can be applied to …

I got 3dMark 2000 to work on my 3 GB 7970 by modifying SystemInfomfc.dll. Just put the file into the benchmark directory. You'll have to use Win 98 compatibility mode and accessing the systeminfo menu will result in a crash. Filename 3dmark2000p.jpg File size 210.67 KiB Views 19438 views

Re: dgVoodoo 2 for DirectX 11

JK's network coding is somewhat of a relic at this point, and lag times are slightly above the average these days. With some decent internet, everyone usually pings 100ms to 250ms within north America. Even with 12 players in a game, network speed stays consistent. I am sure graphics rendering is …

Re: dgVoodoo 2 for DirectX 11

However, I have no problems with JK -windowgui. It starts nice within a windowed menu screen in that case. Starting the game works fine for me as well however when I load a level/enter 3D mode and then go back to the menu it crashes. I think it didn't do that when I started testing 2.41 or at least …

Re: Any alternative to 3D Analyzer?

I found another tool on my harddrive that seems to have that capability called DirectxTweaker. It's relatively old and on Windows 7 you have to use Windows XP compatibility and disable Visual Designs and Desktop Composition to make it work so I don't know if it's any better in that regard than …

Re: dgVoodoo 2 for DirectX 11

Tie Fighter 95 now properly displays intro movies and menu/concourse but crashes when entering flightmode. tiedg.jpg Software mode works fine. XvT/BoP Properly display intro movies now when using the game launcher. BoP still crashes a few seconds after entering flightmode. It seems to work a bit …

Some older games (like Incoming or Darkstone) are broken with Catalysts newer than 13.1. >:( BTW, AMD wanted feedback on their drivers some time ago, I sent them a message about that issue. AFAIK AMD dropped support for older iterations of DirectX. You can usually fix it by putting an earlier …

Re: dgVoodoo 2 for DirectX 11

Thanks, vJoy works!! So, by a quick try, XvT seems to work fine for me, except: - Flashing background with sw rendering - Badly aligned text; don't know what to do with that, the wrapper works according to the rasterization rules of old DX (like native nVidia drivers, I got the same with it) Did it …

Re: dgVoodoo 2 for DirectX 11

Is there any chance to run XvT without a joystick? If not then I have to get a cheap one to test it myself. Vjoy should get you past the joystick check. http://vjoystick.sourceforge.net/site/ There are also several applications that let you control your craft with the mouse. http://www.gog.com/ …
