Can you buy those components and a crimper anywhere? Shoot, I have nothing like that laying around. I suppose I could solder each wire, but I'd rather not do that.

Does anyone have some guidance on how to make a SB-LINK cable to connect a sound card to a SB-LINK header on a motherboard? I imagine I could probably hack up an old CD audio cable, but I don't know the pinouts. I'd like to do this with the least amount of trial an error. Thanks.

I just bought the YMF-724F-v off eBay and will be putting it in my ASUS P2B P3 box. It is going to supplement my Aureal SQ2500 which is currently serving double duty for both DOS and Windows 98. While it can technically run in protected mode, just think of a 386SX as a souped up 286. So basically for *really* old DOS games. Personally, I would consider a 386DX my cutoff point. Anything less and the hardware is so old that it may not be worth the electricity to run. DOSBox will do a better …

I think the synth that sounds best is the one the author used to create it. That's the problem. The levels or various tweaks can affect MIDI generators differently.

Virtualbox? But yah, Win95 support sucks on it. The last QEMU that worked well for Win95 (for me) is 0.11.1

Considering all the difficult things DOSBox emulates, how hard would it be to put in a ctrl-break for the directory command? Or maybe just check for Escape? Sounds like the easiest request in recent memory.

On a computer I had awhile ago, I just had separate autoexec and config.sys files that'd I'd use depending on if I wanted to use Windows or one of my fussy games. Then I wrote a batch file that'd rename the appropriate files when I wanted to change how the computer booted. That's what boot menus …

Interesting. I never noticed that before. The DIR command is emulated and not in any way "real" compared to DOS or Windows, so since ctrl-C doesn't work, it probably has to be coded by the DOSBox devs to accept that. And welcome to the forum. 😉
