I may be getting old and don't remember quite well, but unless you have some EISA cards, there is NO advantage at all.

There are two kinds of Win98 games - those that work on Win98, and those that work on Win98 and XP. (forgetting WinME or 2000 to keep it simple). If you have a game that works on XP, then run it on XP with modern hardware. If you have games that are old enough to require only 95 or 98, chances are …

The 865/875 is the last Intel chipset to sport Win98 drivers, so if you want the fastest, that is it.

He, whadaya know. I just took your recommendations for ESS Audio, ATI video, PIII and Win98 driver compatibility and that Compaq came up as one of the few choices. Too bad I can't get it with a 2ms S-IPS panel with hardware scaling. 😁

It looks like the Compaq Armada M700 is one of the few laptops which fit that description. The M300 would have been good too, but it only has 4Mb of video RAM. I need 8Mb. There is another choice for a PIII, Win98 with ESS Maestro, but it has an S3 Savage 1X video. Any opinion about that?

Yah, I need to find somebody with a CS4297 or CS4299 laptop to be sure. It shouldn't be hard. I checked around. It seems anything with ESS audio is on an older Pentium 1 laptop. Yah, those would suck too much.

The Santa Cruz stayed longer in my 2000/XP systems than any other sound card. 'Mainly because it did sound good and had a wavetable header.

I loaded up Qemu Manager 7.0 which comes with QEMU 0.11.1 and tried a DOS 6.22/Win3.1 installation that I had not used in awhile.
