You serial port issue is likely the same since there is more than one pin out for serial ports. This is the sort of thing that demonstrates why the ATX standard was a very welcome step forward from AT motherboards.

For an example, here's one from a Soyo manual. Caution: not all PS/2 backplates use the same color codes for the wires! I had one that I had to verify the wire positions with a meter.

When I had a KT7A in 2001 I used a Philips Acoustic Edge (PSC706) sound card with it, and it worked perfectly. I had no idea about the issues with Creative cards and Via chipsets, it was the best sound card that Best Buy had in stock when I needed a sound card.

Some Gigabyte motherboards have hidden menus in the CMOS settings that are accessed by hitting ctrl/F1. It isn't mentioned in the manual for this board, so it likely isn't one of them, but if it were me I'd try it just to be sure.
