I didn't check the Biostar, but Jan has a patched BIOS with K6-2+ support for the Tyan (assuming that the S1590 is the same as the S1590S) on his page. Upgrade your BIOS to that, then try again. http://www.steunebrink.info/k6plus.htm

For case cleaning, isopropyl alcohol works very well when removing tape glue residue. I'm guessing that some of that is quite old, which will make the task more difficult and time consuming, but I know of nothing that works better.
