Bought a Yamaha YST-MS35D 2.1 speaker set which turns out to be rather shi*e. The sound is right in the centre of your head i.e. with little to no separation and the quality of the high frequency speakers are terrible. Yamaha seems to be overhyped. It doesn't compare to the Altec Lansing ACS40 2.0 …

Using a Dell 1504FP right at this moment. Its pretty good.there is a little noticeable ghosting. Pretty good for a TN panel with a 4:3 1280X768 resolution.

Always had 17" Dell 1707FPT as backup monitors (the ones with the silver stands). Really nice for square display. They are 1280x1024 btw and can clock up to 75Hz refresh rate. Still have two in use.

Any Windows game will sound better with a Sound Canvas 55 over a MT32. MT32 is more aimed at early 90's dos games. Think Sierra games such as Monkey Island. Mid-late 90's till the end of Midi used General Midi, with the SC55 considered to be the best of the best by a lot of people. Yamaha coming a …

I would second the thinkpads. There are options out there such as the T42 which has upto radeon 9600. CD audio is probably the definitive version of the music. For General Midi, there are several options. Roland Sound Canvases sound very good, or alternatively a Yamaha XG, or one of many fine options of SoundFonts enabled sound cards. I'm still undecided on a card. I'm eyeing up a awe64 gold, but …

AoE's MIDI soundtrack sounds amazing with a YMF724. how does that compare to my creative soundcard? what does the Creative ES128D not have that the yamaha will produce a noticeable difference in sound Hardware assisted XG MIDI. It would probably sound even better on any card with a wavetable heaer …
