As far as I know, the fastest 400 FSB P4 is a 2.8 Northwood. But as The Serpent Rider said, pop in a 533 Northwood and take those Rimms as far as you can go with the dividers.

I got a CT6670 Voodoo2 for an affordable price (50 €) to pair with my other CT6670. Only, when checking the old one, I seem to have an 8MB (old) and a 12MB (new) CT6670. I'll see whether I can find someone brave enough to solder 8 extra chips on the backside.

I checked the P4C800-E Deluxe on Asus' website, and that i875-based board should do all S478, from the slowest (1,4/256/400) to the fastest (P4EE). There's no reason why an i865 should not take a Willamete, but always best to check the documentation.

I had a 5X DVD Creative DXr2 set in 1999 with which I upgraded my i440LX system. DVD's came in jewel cases 😀 . I'll have a look through my mags to check your list.

You shouldn't worry too much about Betas on the Asus site. I usually flash the latest available, beta or not. The 1007 was on the P4B page, not the P4B-M. So you can disregard that comment of mine.

MTBF are some estimates, and spin up and spin down wear out a hdd more than continuous use. Smart info will shed some light on the hours used and the spin ups.
