Ah ok makes sense. If his card is still under warranty he could return it and get a high end HD7k card then, since they are still DX12 compliant.

I used a 478 matx MSI board with one of the lga775 VIA chipsets with AGP/DDR and found it to be really trouble free. No bugs detecting hard drives, no data corruption, 0 driver issues and even the onboard VIA lan/audio worked great. Now the Monochrome graphics onboard were laughable, but who needs …

I use a vga CRT with my HD7850 using a DVI to VGA adapter. Odd that the R series would be incapable of that, is it just a difference in the type of DVI port on the card?

The max cpu the 800fsb 478 boards support is a 3.4ghz Prescott p4 which are still around $20ish, the 3.2 can be had for half that or less even. I would love to use a GF4MX with my P4s if it didn't mean killing the PCX2 IMHO. I just figured it would make sense from an on-hand point of view, since these seem so common. Great 9x drivers and it is a fairly useless card that today no one would pair with a P4.

Halo Combat Evolved. Mainly because I went from Super Mario Bro's on the NES and DOOM on the pc directly to Halo CE on the xbox. That graphical leap was mind blowing to a little kid. Also due to that I have yet to be truly wowed by any advance in graphics since then.

I hate DMS-59 because it seems like I always find cards that use it but not cables, and they are never mid or high end cards, but THE bottom tier that shipped with an OEM.

Picked up a 1991 Mitsumi Caddy load IDE CD-Rom drive from Goodwill! This thing is so cool, pefect for a 386.
