I was absolutely mentally and physically exhausted while working on a lga 1366 setup for a friend of a friend. Broke a screw while mounting a used Corsair H100 just this week. Stock cooler, blah.

The best part of a build like this is you can dual boot 10 and use it for like 80% of modern games with pretty nice performance

Depending on your motherboard you could make it a killer XP rig. Throw a early enough pcie GPU in it and a DOS/98 compatible PCI card in it and maaaaaybe DOS? Not sure if you could get SATA to work so maybe an older PCI card as well? Not sure, but maybe other people here have ideas.

I doubt the voltage one the AGP Express slot would be correct for a Voodoo3, might want to check the mobo specs before attempting it.

Stuff 8gb of ram, a C2Q, a SSD and a GPU together and you make a great budget machine for Windows 10. Honestly SSD's are the single greatest quality of life upgrade for any "Modern" PC. Especially with how badly a HDD gets trashed by Windows 10

Hah... I'm pretty sure there aren't any USB 3 to serial adapters but I could be wrong. The place I used to work at had some equipment that would only work with genuine serial ports and so when serial went away on most machines it was a pain trying to find a USB to serial adapters that would work …

Promise based sata 1 cards seem pretty decent for XP. Kinda finicky under 98 but sometimes they work just fine to boot off of. The via and SIL ones are just. . .bleh. i wonder if there are any discrete pci Intel based sata cards

I had a low profile 8mb Compaq Vanta that had no heatsink and even had a compaq sticker on the die. Came in a matx 800mhz Duron Presario tower my buddy used to play Runescape on that I ended up with.

I know with my 770 a dead cmos makee it throw up about 4 error codes and prevents it from booting

This seems to be a fair bit newer than what people are used to dealing with here. If you bought it from a retailer or other place that has to offer a warranty ... take it back, it is broken. If you have no warranty, you can try replacing the memory modules ... you require 2400mhz DDR4 RAM SO-DIMM …

I got a old matx Dell C2Q setup with a $15 200gb intel SSD, 8gb of ddr2, a halfway decent 430watt PSU and a old hd 7870 setup for a freebie for a friend. It's. . . surprisingly not bad after doing the 3.0ghz tape mod on the Q6600. What will run on it runs really well!

Tested out a free Samsung synchmaster 906bw. It takes like 5 minutes for it to warm up and display a picture. Im betting it'll need a recap.
