Re: LBA 1/Relentless error

Ensure that the program isn't locking your CD drive. (You can tell if it is if you take the CD out, then try to view the drive with explorer. If it's locked up, the file list will still show up even without the CD in the drive.) This happened to me with Return to Zork, although only on my DVD drive …

Re: Cannot enable EMS under Win2K...

in Deep Thought
Try loading EMM386 using this line: DEVICEHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE RAM I=B000-B7FF B000-B7FF is a no longer used portion of memory. I can't remember what it was originally set for, but this has solved problems of getting EMM386 to work in the past for me.

Re: Sam & Max

in DOS
Either use ScummVM or the floppy version interpreter. At least, those are the suggestions for DOTT. Since they both use the same engine, I'd assume that the instructions would be the same as well.

Re: System Shock and Memory

in DOS
Once you get the final patch for System Shock 2 (available at Patches Scrolls ) you should have no problem running it on 2000/XP. It's most definitely worth the $12. Anyone that says otherwise can go stick their head in an oven and roast for a while. The problem with System Shock 1 isn't that it …

Re: Spinning logo always there

Apparently you didn't catch it the first time. Your other problems are legitimate Since you haven't paid for the program yet, any support you receive regarding the corrupt graphics is on a charitable basis. If you want this problem to be resolved, I suggest you read the POSTING GUIDELINES for VOGONS …

Re: XWingCD: MIDI music slow

I believe Motherboard Monitor uses the nasty I/O DLL whose name I can't remember at the moment, but that basically makes VDMSound not work. I'm glad the mobo monitor that MSI (my mobo manufacturer) released doesn't use that ickyness. I looked at the new way Microsoft is providing support and decided …

Re: XWingCD: MIDI music slow

kevbo, your comment on a "new" NTVDM is intriguing. If you can dig up the knowledge base question, I'd love to see if Microsoft would be willing to give me a copy (and, in turn, I'd distribute it to you all, of course 😀)

Re: System Shock and Memory

in DOS
System Shock 1, quite simply, refuses to work in any flavour of NT. In any case, System Shock 2 does an excellent job of giving you the background on what happened in SS1. Basically, it goes as follows: "In 2072, a rogue AI known as Shodan lost her mind. In her limitless imagination, Shodan saw …

Re: Discworld

I know that Discworld 2 has some issues with sound, but it works. I imagine that they both use the same (or similar) engine, so I'm not sure why Discworld 1 wouldn't.

Re: Divide by zero & Boobia City

in DOS
Thanks for the tips, gil22! One of the few times I get divide by zero errors with DOS/4GW is with the game "Flight Unlimited". The DOS/4GW program is embedded into the game itself which means that I can't do a swap of different versions. I'd like to see if this divefix program works.
