Re: Welcome to the updated VOGONS

I’ve made changes to the dithering on the oldskool theme; people who were having trouble reading text there please let me know how it is now. [hr] I am also not a fan of anything that moves for no reason such as the logo and when you click into boxes etc. Your OS reduce motion setting should be …

Since these are technically search shortcuts, they collapse into the search panel on small screen. So just tap the search button …

at least it's not vanilla with half of the images offloaded to a google-owned server with megabytes of fonts cached per page load ;) You have no idea how hard this was. Some… person… at phpBB thought that it was a totally cool great perfect idea that, whenever someone typed an emoji into a message, …

Lots of great comments here! I will try to answer things where I feel like I can provide useful feedback (I tried to pick just one if there were multiple comments of the same kind, so your question might be answered here even if you don’t see your original comment): [hr] How do I view the latest " …

Is there any way to disable the background checkerboard pattern on every other post? It makes the text unclear/fuzzy. I'm using the latest Google Chrome Version 79.0.3945.88 (Official Build) (64-bit) Screenshot example of what I'm talking about: https://i.imgur.com/zIUmvo9.png Oh no! That …

I’ve made an adjustment that should resolve 502 Bad Gateway errors for any other visitors even without clearing cookies. @retro games 100: not sure which wayback machine you were using; waybackmachine.org has lots of stuff.

New server

Hi everyone, Things have been moved to a new server. You should not notice any changes, but if you experience any *new* problems in the next day or two please note them here.

Re: Hard disk drive grinding

I am a bit surprised by the suggestions given here since nobody has said anything about actually diagnosing the disk itself. Furthermore, attempting to defragment a disk when the physical health of the disk is unknown is an extremely dangerous thing to do, since it may accelerate the failure of the …

Support High Sierra discs in imgmount

Currently, imgmount fails to mount images from old CD-ROMs that use High Sierra (instead of ISO-9660). The two standards are very similar (ISO-9660 is a modified version of High Sierra), so I hope it should not be very hard to add support. All the information I can dig up about the differences …

Yeah, fuck best practises. That shit’s for losers. Give me a Jet database, Visual Basic, and ON ERROR RESUME NEXT and I’ll make the most awesome thing in the world!!! It’ll be completely unmaintainable, incapable of more than 1 concurrent user, and 100% proprietary, but it’ll be awesome!

I'm a huge fan of the database approach. Thanks to ODBC it's very easy to add and edit data with Office apps, no matter what's running in the backend. Uhhh… That means you don't necessarily need a web frontend for data maintenance (which is pretty hard to code properly). No it’s not. :) And then …

This is certainly one of those things, along with a myriad of other forum updates and a properly good looking theme, that is on the list of things I’ve always wanted to do but never had enough time for. At the least, I have portions of a new design, but that’s not nearly as useful as a database. 😀

Re: WAV File with "Embed" HTML Code Problem

This I realize (as the original page was created back when I was running NS v3.(something). But, why does it work on two PCs (that have the same OS and setup, except for having SP3 installed on them), but not the other? The better question is “why does it work at all?” The answer, of course, is …

1. is not a valid HTML element. The only reason it works at all is for compatibility with Netscape 4. 2. Internet Explorer 6? Dude, it’s 2010, that browser is older than the original Xbox. Upgrade already. 3. Don’t post uncompressed audio. 4. Don’t post audio that auto-plays anywhere, at all, ever.
