Re: List the PC games that you have beaten

Updated with The Witcher 2. I was a little disappointed in it. I really liked the first game, and this was a lot different. Combat was more arcade-like with having to roll and dodge. I didn't like that you had to consume a potion before combat started too, since you might not know what you needed …

Re: Today's Predicted Rapture!

Anyone that truly believed the world was ending on May 21st was welcome to sign over their bank account, house, and car to me effective May 22nd. I didn't get any takers on that offer. Y2K was a real problem, after all look at what happened after Y1K - we had hundreds of years of Dark Ages...

Re: Extinct developers you miss the most

You are right el Pusher - EOB was published by SSI but developed by Westwood. Strange, looking at my EOB manual and Westwood is only mentioned in the credits at the end, where SSI's logo was on the front and rear covers with no mention of Westwood.

Re: Extinct developers you miss the most

Origin would be the one I miss the most, followed by Looking Glass Studios. I hadn't seen mention of Accolade yet. Star Control II was their best game in my opinion, but I also enjoyed their point and click adventures - Les Manley Lost in LA and Les Manley Search for the King as well as some of …

Re: Most disappointing games?

I would have to disagree with System Shock 2. I liked the first better, but the second wasn't a bad game, though I also hated the respawning right behind you. I am guessing that a few other people would disagree too since SS2 is the #1 most requested game on Good Old Games by a large margin. http:// …

I just picked up the guitar again a couple years ago after a 20 year hiatus. I have really enjoyed what can be done these days when coupled with a computer. When I got my Mac I started messing around with Garage Band then decided to pick up the guitar again. My iMac is now my guitar amplifier via …

Re: Floppy disk thoughts & questions

As others have said, it depends on how you have stored them. I sold my Atari 800 just a few years ago, but discs from 1983 were still readable nearly 25 years later. They had all been kept in sleeves and in the closet away from direct sunlight. The ones I had the most trouble reading years later …

Trespasser I had high hopes for this - advanced physics (for it's time), one of the first games to support bump mapping, and promising a different experience than the typical FPS of the day. Instead it was an exercise in frustration to control Ann's arm to manipulate objects. The only redeeming …

Re: GOG.com is gone

I was reading where someone slowed down the video linked on gog.com and it showed a flash of Baldurs Gate and a redesigned site. That makes me think it is a site relaunch, coming out of beta. Guess we will know later today. CDP had been having some financial issues earlier, so they may be getting a …

Maybe the second longest. The longest per Guinness is Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Phiman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit. We refer to it as Bangkok, the Thais shorten it to Krung …

Re: D-Fend Reloaded (DOSBox frontend)

Thanks Alexander. I just recently started using D-Fend Reloaded a month ago. I had always did individual configs and started them with dosbox -conf previously, but decided to give your front end a try. I liked it a lot and got all of my DOS games set up to use it now. It's obvious that a lot of time …

Re: Using a PC with a TV

The reason I mentioned HDMI was because retro mentioned that he was using a Sony Bravia. Sony doesn't allow the full resolution using the VGA port in the back, only through an HDMI connection. I found that out when connecting a PC to my parent's Sony Bravia and was unable to set to higher …

Re: Using a PC with a TV

If you can get a DVI to HDMI adapter cable you should be able to get higher resolutions. I have one connected to an HDMI port on my TV and it really looks good @ 1920x1080. I think that the PC output looks much better than console equivalents. I played Dragon Age on it for a while. My son brought …

Re: Most annoying enemies in a game?

in Milliways
Magic Carpet - the rival wizards. Every time you claimed some mana you had to stay there and guard it until it was collected. If you tried to leave they would swoop in and claim it for themselves. System Shock II - respawning enemies. You could clear out a closed room, go out the door, come right …

Re: Blood on OS X

Blood was one of the more demanding DOS games. I suspect a G4/1.5ghz would run it way too slow even if you do get it up and running. DOSBox has to emulate the hardware too so it requires a lot more powerful system than the original game.

Re: Some games hate my Trackball.

BAK also had the same behavior for me using a Logitech Trackman Wheel on both the OS X and Windows versions of DOSBox. It was still playable, but the mouse pointer would only move a fraction of the distance per move of the trackball compared to other games. If you used a regular mouse it would work …
