Re: Post pics of your CRT monitors

one would think so , but obviously no , the distance it traveled was about 400 miles , and it was well packed ,which only leads me to the conclusion that UPS were using it as a football. if anyone has an idea of how to fix this, I would be happy to hear it, since otherwise its actually a pretty good …

Re: Post pics of your CRT monitors

the good news is that I finally managed to find a decent monitor that I could get shipped to me , a 17inch Mitsubishi diamond 750SB. bad news is that I suspect its been damaged during shipping (Thanks UPS, Im hoping the football game this was used for was fun), due to the small cracks in the shell , …

Re: Post pics of your CRT monitors

Had a LG Studioworks 775N back in the day. Great mojnitor, shadowmask. Now I have two aperture grille monitors which I don't like, especially when playing old games like caesar iii. I think all the CRTs I ever owed were shadowmask , is one type supposed to be better for some things than the other? …

Re: Post pics of your CRT monitors

by decent I obviously mean something that was higher end at the time, if I looked I could probably find a Dell or some other low end CRT Of course, you know that some Dell CRT's used Sony Trinitron tubes right? Some Dell CRT's were a little on the "higher end" in terms of quality. (I have 4 21" …

Re: Post pics of your CRT monitors

sadly I have not been able to find a decent quality CRT locally, and obviously most people will not ship a CRT via courier. worse yet , my old LCD broke down recently leaving me to use my modern HD LCD (an ASUS VH242H), which does have a few advantages such as high resolutions and low response times …

Re: Socket 7 build

sadly changing the FSB back to normal didn't solve or reduce it, Descent sadly has the same issue, the AGP version didn't suffer from that. the only odd part about this PC (other than the V3+GF2 setup) is that Im using a 700Mhz Coppermine in an Abit BX6 rev1 motherboard that officially only supports …

Re: Socket 7 build

interference might be one way of describing it , faint flickering white lines in the center of the screen , its also not affected by either slowing down the CPU, or running the games in DOS. like I said its no big deal since most games are fine, and they work fine on the GF2, but I wonder if its …

Re: Socket 7 build

surprisingly my Hercules branded GF2Ti has pretty decent quality 2D at 1027X768 , although I will say the Voodoo3 PCI does have a somewhat less pixelated picture. on the other hand, some DOS games dislike the V3 , which cause the image to flicker (the Lion King and Warcraft 1 are two games that do …

Re: Simple XP rig

that looks more like a Win98 machine to me..... it won't run WinXP era games well at all (even the earliest ones like RTCW or Warcraft 3 needed a 600Mhz+ PIII to run well) and frankly the games this would run , would be better on Win98.

Re: My Ultimate Windows 98 Machine

now it might be due to me using a Radeon 6870 Ah... when I said "newer hardware," I was thinking more along the lines of my Radeon X850 XT PE :-D (Incidentally, even that card has issues with Max Payne 1.) I guess I've given up on gaming with truly modern hardware, to be honest. It got to be such a …

Re: My Ultimate Windows 98 Machine

I eventually got Max Payne 2 to work by simply waiting for newer drivers (although sometimes new drivers fix older issues while creating new ones obviously) , but Max 1 still has issues. fortunately my Win98 machine has the horsepower to run Max Payne smoothly at high settings and res, so its ok on …

Re: My Ultimate Windows 98 Machine

thats a pretty kickass machine, I really like the case. Thanks! I wonder if a Geforce3 or 4 would be a better choice for that CPU , in my mind a GF2 is better for a 600-1Ghz CPU, some of the later DX8 games could really benefit from that. Agreed, the Geforce2 and PIII 1400S are mismatched. However, …
