Re: It's 286 time!

its a 17inch screen , officially its widescreen, but it honestly doesn't look like widescreen (more like 16:10), the good thing is that I can use it for consoles and the PC, so it saves space that way (and it has RGB SCART which most PAL systems support), its not an HD monitor per se, its an LCD …

Re: It's 286 time!

Yeah I love that monitor, I got it new a couple of years ago and use it for all my retro machines, right up to a P4 XP box! I'll never find one that nice again. I did a bit more work on this machine last night, the 3.5" floppy was slowly dying so I replaced it. I love the flip top lid case, it just …

Re: It's 286 time!

always nice to see an older 80s machine up and running, should be useful for quite a few CPU sensitive games. really like the monitor too , a Trinitron CRT is something I wouldn't mind getting, although I can't seem to find one close by (and most people won't ship them for obvious reasons)

Re: My Super Socket 7 Retro machine!

I think a big part of the reason why the old C&C games didn't work on NT-based OSes was just because of how their IPX networking was coded. On that note, I read that Red Alert 2 came out late in 2000. Did people struggle with running that game on XP at all? Ive ran it on XP , it runs fine without …

Re: Rude/strange Ebay sellers?

in Milliways
I don't think Ive encountered one that was rude , so much as ones who provide inadequate service. for instance, a few years ago , I bought Final Fantasy 9 from Ebay, it took the seller about 10 days to send it, in economy class (so it took another 3 or 4 days to get here) , and in the end the game …

Re: My Super Socket 7 Retro machine!

Win2000 is a great OS for running Win9x games on period hardware, though it does have a few compatibility issues and I wouldn't recommend it for anything requiring MS-DOS or IPX networking. Otherwise, I like it a lot as a retro OS. its certainly very stable, though I remember a few games not …

Re: My Super Socket 7 Retro machine!

Not in DOS, but hell lot more fluid Windows 98SE /2k multitasking. A K6-III+ between 550-600 Mhz roughly brings the perf. of a Pentium III at 350 Mhz. hmm , that statement makes me wonder, if there is any benefit to running Win2000 on this system over Win98SE, Win2000 should be more stable, but …

Re: New member here, my K6-III system

I think deus ex and alice are a bit too much for the k6 platform and voodoo 3,i remeber playing those games on a socket A system, with geforce 2 generation videocard. From what i read here http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34666 it's performance is more like a P II at 350-400,without 3D now …

Re: New member here, my K6-III system

I'm also building a slot 1 pc,bx board, pentium III 450mhz,would have prefered a p II at 450 mhz,but they harder to find and from what i read the 2 processors are almost identical. PIII Katmai is basically just a PII with some extras like SSE, hence why the Athlon was beating it on most tests at the …

Re: New member here, my K6-III system

Something I noticed about Epox boards (or at least mine) was capacitors of questionable quality - the board would only work with certain power supplies IMHO a pentium III is a much better choice than k6-2 or K6-3 Something else to keep in mind if you are going to run windows at all is that the wave …
