The OrangePC boards were incredible. They could beat the pants off the Apple cards. I have a 540 board which is one of the late PCI versions and with a Powerleap adapter it's oddly shaped but it eliminates the need for a 95 machine on my desk.

I don't think I've ever run into a CF card under DOS/9x/2K that insisted it was a removable media. I did find however that in some applications that regardless of the card brand the performance was unbearably slow compared to even a regular hard drive.

Bad caps leak/rupture ... good ones don't. My laserdisc player begs to differ. Again, all lytic caps have a finite life.

One of the best things you can get for them are a series of *very* nice multichannel MOTU recording interfaces with PCI interface cards for dirt cheap - like $50-$100.
