Re: Making a midi device tower

MU128 is the low end but regular shaped little brother of the MU1000/2000 anyway. I personally do not miss the screen when using an MU500 . I use it in its native mode anyway . Since there are hardly any (if any at all) PC games composed specifically for the MU80, I do not really see the point in …

Re: So... I picked up and simple unassuming beige AT computer and it turned out to be this....

Hello fellow retro computer enthusiasts. I rarely post on this forum (apart from a few replies to some threads where I tough I could be useful to others) but I've been a long time stalker. Over the weekend I picked up a beige AT computer at a flea market. I bought it because I really liked the case …

Re: Sound much louder on PC front panel

Pretty much, I guess . Plugging and unplugging headphones from the back port would not be that convenient anyway . If you really want to drive headphones from the back connector (likely line-out level), you could always buy a headphone amplifier . Well, thanks for the info. All this is very stupid, …

Re: Is there any reason to keep a Win9X machine around for gaming except for fun or nostalgia?

I'm launching a project on August 27th that will go a long way in answering the OP's question. I'm looking forward to it, then :) Thanks everyone for the answers, I guess a lot of users here go through that doubt. I really enjoy playing with old PCs, but the hardware part frustrates me too much …

Re: My P3 Retro DOS PC

I finally received the screws for the VGA port on my GF2, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I forgot to check for bad caps, and POP! A capacitor exploded! Will have to recap and then try again. I also tried to run both the Audigy and the YMF744 cards at the same time, thinking I would get best of …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

To complete the picture, it looks like darry was right, the VGA2HDMI1 is identical in construction to the CYP SY-P293. Here at picture of my SY-P293... Thank you for checking this ! . Another interesting thing is that both the VGA2HDMI Pro and the AT-HD500 are discontinued, but the SY-P293 is still …

Re: Making a midi device tower

Unless its really cheap skip 500 and go for 1000/2000. 500 has no display and switching settings around via sysex is a pain. Especially if you want to use MU Basic (mu80) sound mode too. Agreed . Cheapest, MU500 is 175 CAN$ , Mu1000 is 360 CAN$, MU2000 is around 290 400 CAN$ . Money talks, however …

Re: Sound much louder on PC front panel

According to the specs you provided, one of the outputs has a headphone amplifier, likely the front panel one . If you want to be sure, you will need to follow traces from the amp chip or ask the manufacturer . This is all new to me, I expected front and back ports to give exactly same signal. So, …

Re: Sound much louder on PC front panel

Specifying your board model would help . On the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master that I have , the front panel is fed by a headphone amplifier connected to a Realtek CODEC, whereas the back one is a line level out connected to an ESS DAC . Here: https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Extreme4/ @MMaximus: …

Re: Making a midi device tower

Hello, i have a Macintosh Performa 6116CD and a Cyrix Dos PC. Roland MT32 and Roland Sound Canvas SC88 are connected with my Macintosh. (Same) Roland MT32 and Roland Sound Canvas SC55 Mark I are connected with my PC. (MT32 is connected via a midi switch with both computers). Although my computers …

Re: Is my Voodoo5 5500 broken?

Sorry to read that . I don't know how common the symptom is, but somebody else has a similar issue here . Voodoo 5 5500 AGP only work in single chip mode! EDIT : If both your cards came from the same source, there may be something fishy going on.

Re: IBM PC 5150 games?

thank you very much! looking on the internet I discovered some interesting things about hardware which is the critical part: 1) the CPU can be changed with a NECv20 which is faster and the clock generator can be changed by bringing the CPU to 8mhz. 2) IBM provides both the CGA card and the EGA for …
