Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

That did not take care of the problem. SBVGM -c file VGM detects the SB but not the CMS chips, while SBVGM -sb -c does not even detect the Sound Blaster. I tried debugging SBVGM, but gave up after spending twenty minutes in string-handling functions and various internal structure setups with no …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

Hardware playback (with the -c option) should work when the appropriate BLASTER environment variable is present (I have it working on my SB1.5 as I'm typing). It doesn't here. That's the problem. With or without BLASTER=, with or without -sb, but always tried with -c. Maybe you could isolate just …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

Every file that uses the SAA1099, be it directly or via NES APU->SAA1099 conversion. The problem is not file-specific; it is that "SBVGM -c file.vgm" works in DOSBox with "sbtype=sb1/sb2" but not on real hardware. When specifying "-c", SBVGM displays "Sound Blaster(C/MS)" in DOSBox, but on real …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

After redownloading SBVGM v1.16, it no longer freezes on the Tandy 1000 TX. Must have previously been a bad sector or something. That's a relief to hear! Thank you for checking. Which brings me to two lesser issues: SAA1099 .VGM files cannot be played back on the CMS-chips-having Sound Blaster 1.5 …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

I am pretty sure, that this ESS-SOLO1 PCI-Card is not compatible with CMS. I thought plain SB would do the job for the player, or perhaps Adlib-Emulation (which is supported), but I think this is a dead end for me. Thx anyways. Greetings Doc You're welcome! The OPL3 has native support for square …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

Hi Scali! SBVGM uses that method to detect if a Game Blaster is present, but that method doesn't seem to work for Sound Blasters with the C/MS chips present. Ah, perhaps that is a shortcoming in the SB design then. It seems so. I'm just guessing, but the SB 1.0 had the chips soldered on the board …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

It's not possible to detect the C/MS chips on the Sound Blaster series Actually, I believe it is. This thread describes building a replica of the Game Blaster: http://www.vcfed.org/forum/showthread.php?47363-Creative-Music-System-(CMS)-Game-Blaster-compatible-replica One thing that is mentioned is …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

While I am not familiar with the ESS-SOLO1, I am under the impression that it does have support for the C/MS option. I skimmed through the datasheet and found no clues of C/MS support. It does say that it's compatible with SB Pro (Pro should not have C/MS?) and SBbase+0 to SBbase+3 ports are for …

http://www.flickr.com/photos/94839221@N05/sets/72157687526598300/ Does this help, or do you need additional stuff? Greetings Doc Thanks a bunch, that's exactly what I needed! That particular file is for the SN76489 hardware which SBVGM does command data translation for to the optional C/MS (SAA1099 …

dr.zeissler wrote: SBVGM does not work on ESS-SOLO1 PCI either. Was there any error message or output? I don't own one of those to test with so it may likely be a bug when it attempts to auto-detect the sound hardware. There are options to force a particular setting if that might help.

I may be able to fix it and at least test it under DOSBox (since I don't have a Tandy 1000 to test on). …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

Hi, OPLx! It seems that SBVGM does not yet support VGM stream commands. They can be very useful for some songs; I have attached one of them. It's the title screen music from the 1989 Electronic Arts game "688 Attack Sub", played on the Tandy 1000. The game plays PCM samples by manipulating the …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

Wow 1.15 already! Gotta upgrade all my computers from 1.11 to 1.15 and stop idling around  I am very glad to see development on your player and I was hoping that the new init routine in the 1.15 would somewhat fix a strange problem with one of my favorite soundtrack. But no :depressed: it's …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

I've some troubles with the Flashback's rip . SBVGM version 1.14 MSDOS 6.22 386DX40 with real AdLib (original not clone) card (port 388). Logo and Introduction tunes are randomly out of tune/wrong speed/missing instruments. I've the game installed on the same machine to compare. Sometime the tune …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

staff at vgmrip told me that I could edit the wiki vgm player list, so I did add yours, using simple link and description you provide. I polled dude on irc and it was decided your player belong in the "old computer" section : https://vgmrips.net/wiki/VGM_Players btw : everyone at the chat room was …

Re: SBVGM (DOS) VGM Player

I can play nes music in all them wavelenght glory ! Wow! Nice pic! That's definitely one way to get the full audio spectrum. It must be a very nice experience to have the music playing through a full stereo system. :) Funny the guy at the pawnshop sold me this digital eq for twice nothing and then …
