Which sound banks do you recommend for AWEUTIL? I use the fantagm2.sbk bank, requires 8MB sample ram. You can also try out the user.sbk (AWE 2 Mb GM bank) bank if you need one that fits 2MB. Warcraft II crashes when loading certain levels. Orc level 2/9 and Human level 5 at least. You can use cheats to jump between levels. Sim City 2000 crashes at the "DOS extender screen". I'm still at v1.2, did you make any other changes the the detection of memory managers for v1.3?

Make the mapping range four didgit so it also can map into the PCI I/O range. Some PCI sound cards can have their MPU-401 interface accessed that way without even initializing the card, see the spreadsheet in my signature for sound cards that allow this.

Are you running the VXD or WDM drivers? I'll guess the FM-part isn't initialized at port 388h and the MIDI driver access it through PCI I/O address instead (base +68h). You can also try to run your games from pure DOS, but you have to initialize the card with the CFG801 utility.

Does it sound differently that Creative's soundbanks? The DOOM 1 and 2 should work with SFX alnog with MIDI. The problem with Duke is confirmed. Starting research again. Compared to the the ROM of the Sound Blasted 32 it sounds completely different. Doom runs a few minutes with SFX before crashing.

CMI8338 and CMI8738 have a nice FM sound, close to a 1:1 clone of OPL3. ALS4000 also have a nice sounding clone.
