SUCCESS!!! I tested another BIOS from the same place wbc linked that BIOS from, and I found this slightly older 2.01.07 version that doesn't have wonky black levels. My cheap ATC Virge DX now has decent blacks!!!!! MY Virge DX is very overbright too, so how do I flash the video bios? Also the text …

Played Homeworld for 3 hours on the Cyrix MII 333 & Rage Pro turbo. Runs just fine and looks good too, more importantly its a brilliant game 😀

Also both the Ati DVD players need a serial and original driver/DVD player CD to install so no go there either.

OK, with more extensive use the Cinemaster player is less than perfect, it's very picky about what discs it will even recognise and locks up after about 20 mins and needs rewinding then playing on those it does. This is not the solution i was hoping for ;) I can't vouch for the stability of PowerDVD …
