It's definitely not as common as it used to be, but there are still the odd speakers that are magnetically shielded, for example the Audioengine A2+

Great stuff! How did you manage to extract the demo song from the synth? I used to have a D-110 years ago but noticed the Midi OUT was disabled when playing the demo songs.

I'm no expert but it sounds like you might have a short on the board, hence why they won't start. Do you have access to another XT or AT motherboard to try them?

Don't cut the wires!! From the looks of it you need to remove the whole front bezel of the case first.
