I suppose they also do this because it's easier for them to limit piracy of their products. It's probably a lot easier to crack a VST than to crack an IOS app...

Actually I never tried to adjust the speed "on the fly" because I didn't want to risk damaging anything. I no longer have this system so I can't test it unfortunately.

I have to say I don't really see the point of these for retrogaming - as you pointed out they are made for industrial applications. So I suppose "perfect reproduction of vintage graphics" weren't really a concern when they designed these - as long as it allows whatever old machine to output a text …
