Not sure why sliderider thinks some of those cards never came with one, because basically every Google image for the Hercules Stingray 128 clearly has the mounting bracket (which is probably what I'd call that backplate), as do the images of the Intergraph Intense 3D.

Found a random old joystick (gameport type I think) for £2 in a charity shop, an Interact SV-200. Feels OK, but haven't tested it as I'm too lazy to set up the computer with a gameport on at the moment.
