Re: Fun n games with OS/2

There were localised OS/2 patches, but they never kept quite up to date. NT wasn't much better - at the time all OS were individually localised, with dozens of releases to support each country. It was only with Windows Vista this started to change properly (there was an international version of XP …

Re: Sound Blaster Audigy Rx...oppinions?

in Milliways
I personally haven't seen any issues with the X-Fi cards - I have both X-Fi (PCi-e) and Audigy 4 (PCI) cards. If you want to run EAX properly you should build an XP box with an X-Fi card. Alchemy is alright, but it doesn't work with EAX 1.0 games such as Planescape:Torment. I'm not sure if it's …

Re: Retro OSes for retro computers

Unpatched OS/2 2.0 is a bit of a nightmare. It has a load of bugs and is still running the 16 bit GDI. The large service pack improved things somewhat. If you must run 2.0, try a 486 with a least 8MB RAM. Cirrus Logic worked fine in OS/2 2.1. It also won't like large disks at that point without …

Re: Searching for a CRT monitor

Auron, honestly bite the hand off of the local guy selling a 15" Viewsonic for £25. It's not very much money, it's a decent brand, you can see it working in the screenshots, and it'll do a decent refresh rate (85Hz) at 1024x768. It's also 'period appropriate' - as I mentioned previously, first time …

Re: Searching for a CRT monitor

Very true about CRTs being on there last legs, but there are many unused stock being found in places which I would think had no reason to have any degraded components that matter. As much there is one CRT I have found which is decent that was only used from new for 10 months then put away ..10 …

Re: Searching for a CRT monitor

Anything you're going to buy at this point will be a total crapshoot. It's so long since any CRTs have been manufactured (2003-2005) that they won't be at their best. Despite being a large CRT fan, I would caution everyone to look carefully at the alternatives. After looking (again) at Sony PVMs etc …

Re: Any others given up on the hobby?

in Milliways
I haven't given up, but I've not been on here in months because my six year old nephew introduced me to Lego Dimensions, and then I thought that I'd heard Breath of the Wild was incredible - so I bought a second hand Wii U. It mostly killed my retro gaming stone dead, as I'm 120 hours into BoTW ( …
