Re: Test Bench vs Cardboard Box

I had my eye on it already, actually. It was the case that inspired the topic. Here's what it looks like with some spare parts slotted in. Compact, lightweight, seems durable. But where's the practicality, Lian Li? Where is it?!

Re: Deus Ex Invisible War and GPUs

One of those games where you need to have a top-end machine OF the time? The first time I played it on PC was on my old Dell Inspiron E1505, which I bought in late 2006. A very laggy experience on a Core 2 Duo 1.6Ghz, and a Radeon Mobility X1400. That seems like it was spec'd too low to play well. …

Re: NAM on steam!

Ah! Awesome! I remember seeing NAM and WW2GI in the electronics department of my local Fred Meyers. Always wanted them but never got them. A year or so ago I picked up the original release of NAM, when it was still called NAPALM. Couldn't find WW2GI though. Hopefully it does make it to Steam!

Re: Test Bench vs Cardboard Box

Holy mother of... pearl. That shipped quickly. It took me about 2 hours to finish putting the case together and slotting some components in there. The Newegg reviews are not lying about the complexity of the build; the instructions are garbage (low quality pictures, can't tell orientation of parts, …

Re: Test Bench vs Cardboard Box

It would be fun to make my own. In my experience though homemade wooden things are bulky, heavy, and kinda rough. I built a toothbrush holder once that was nigh-unusable. I live in an apartment though, so I don't have access to good woodworking tools or space.

Re: Deus Ex Invisible War and GPUs

I'm generally not a fan of when developers make a sequel to somebody else's game. Human Revolution was a pretty good game, but man it just has nothing to do with Deus Ex. It looked like New Thief 4 was the same story.

Re: Test Bench vs Cardboard Box

I have a case with a slide-out mainboard tray, which would make a great test platform. But that case works very well as is. I couldn't find that Cooler Master case for sale anywhere in the US. I did see that Lian Li case, which looks gorgeous. But it seems huge, and costs $80-100 USD. Yikes. For …

Test Bench vs Cardboard Box

I have more computer hardware than I have computer cases, and taking apart and putting together cases is tiring. It's sort of a zen task, but makes testing small changes take way longer than they need to. And that's when you just stack things on an empty motherboard box, and pile it all on a table. …

Re: Deus Ex Invisible War and GPUs

I imagine it was the result of developing for Xbox, and porting to PC. The PC version acts almost identically to the Xbox version, and doesn't seem to understand it's running on a PC. Also as Phil likes to remind people, Splinter Cell was developed for a very specific GPU, could be the same kind of …

Re: Deus Ex Invisible War and GPUs

I always figured it just wasn't optimized at all. I needed to get some video capture for a review/thing and installed the game on my current workhorse machine (i5-3470, 2GB GTX 660 SC, 16GB RAM, Seagate hybrid drive). Chugged like a bitch. Crashed like a biiiiiitch. Looked like …
