So I have a Vortex 2 8830 based sound card and in every DOS game in DOS mode the sound is quiet when I play in DOS mode, but when I play games in Windows the CD audio works fine. I run on a real machine, low color also crashes. P4 @ 2.8 GHz, Geforce 4 MX 420. Reinstall doesn't fix it.
