I think so too. And if you switch the crystal for a 8MHz one you get 16/20/24/26/32/40/42/48/64MHz; or with a 12MHz crystal you end up with 24/30/36/39/48/60/63/72/96 MHz. That would cover a lot of the range you would need.

If you want to try that could be an interesting project IMO. There are higher rated DDS chips too like the AD9854 that can go to 150MHz or even higher but expect that to cost more (about $40 for a board vs about $15 for an 9851).

I don't know anything about this model, but it's probably a very late PC clone. Surface-mount QFP chips and coin cells is not something that you typically find on motherboards of this class.

I have had CF/IDE adapters go bad before, in fact I have one on my desk right now. I don't know exactly how it happens because they have almost no active components on them, but they do. When that happens I shrug and buy another one. They're cheap enough.

Finding a CLCC68 socket is nearly impossible. I've been trying to get one for my MBL80286-8 for weeks, no luck. A CLCC-PLCC converter socket doesn't even exist as far as I can tell even though there are pictures of it online. If you have this package you are better off making a socket yourself. …

Thanks; I was pretty sure that finger shouldn't be missing. So I looked with one of those bore inspection cameras in the slot and I found the missing finger, broken, at the bottom of the slot. I used a piece of wire to remove it so it won't short other contacts.

That's a tabbed battery, basically a standard coin cell with nickel tabs spot-welded. They're uncommon but not that rare. I've seen them mostly on laptops from the 486-to-pentium era. You can even make your own from standard batteries if you want - all you need is a spot welder.
