With only 1MB RAM, you can forget about running Linux. It won't work. 16MB should be about the bare minimum you need for that. 1MB won't even fit an ancient kernel image. Maybe you can scrape by with 8MB, but it will be slow as hell. The Rampage won't help, that will give you expanded memory but for …

It's quite obviously a proprietary card that takes SIMMs. It's useless in absence of the specific motherboard that it originally came with.

My best guess is it's some sort of industrial process controller. The NEC chips are essentially 64k x 4bit RAM arrays with both random and serial access and may be used to store process information or acquired data transmitted serially to/from an external device. Other than that I have no idea.

The version of SRM that I used is 5.5, the same as the one from the CD. It loads ARC 4.49-9 but not ARC 5.4. I don't have any other version of SRM available.

You're welcome. You should start by figuring out if the oscillator is working at all e.g. see if there is a CLK signal at the ISA slots (test between pin B20 and ground http://www.hardwarebook.info/ISA#Pinout)

@Kadath: nice. These days I only do QRSS in 40m and 20m. Out of all the equipment in your picture, I have a Baofeng (an even older model than your canary box, rarely use it as local 2m/70cm traffic is more of less dead) and the same thermometer on top of the coaxial switch. 😀 73 KC1BJW
