Rick6, this is brilliant! Does Painkiller have a built-in benchmark? That 6800 does very well, I thought the 7800GS would be ahead more.

Very true, the internal CPU cache has a large impact. At least on the socket 7 platform, the L2 cache is still quite useful, letting you toggle between 386 and 486 type performance.

I think I never used CS either 😊 For a HDD and ODD I do: Using two IDE cables: Both set to Master and connected to the end of the IDE cable. Using one IDE cable: HDD set to Master and connected to the end of the IDE cable, ODD to slave connected to the middle of the IDE cable.

Yes, AFAIK there is no software solution that can control the motherboard cache. shouldnt it be possible to see what the bios does when you turn cache off and just redo that in plain dos? should be kinda possibiru That would be cool. I just think if it's possible someone would have already done it? …

Ok. How long did you wait, when it froze, before you shut it down? Give it several minutes, it might be looking for a device. Similar issues happen for me when I don't have a floppy drive connected.
