I saw a difference even between 95 and 98 SE on my Pentium 100. In the end I still stuck with 98 SE though, as I only occasionally boot into Windows do faster rename or move games around.

It's possible that those have flat batteries also. I would mod one, with a new battery, and see if that sorts it out.
