I'm more practical, prefer evidence over fact sheets 😀 I might make some recordings one day comparing all the options because when I played with X-Fi MB3 on Realtek I was very satisfied. But without side by side comparison it's difficult for sure.

I have 3x 1 GHz with 133 MHz FSB. 2 won't post. Not even post beeps, nothing. Tried three motherboard just be sure.

I tested S370 processors and found two non working ones :( Two others weren't labelled, so I wrote the frequency / FSB on them to make it easier for the future. Then I played around with V2 SLI. You might want to consider going with SD cards instead. Check my YouTube channel, I just did a review. In 95% of cases the machine just auto detects the settings. Even a 386 did this, but it has a 500 MB limit of course, so using EZ-Drive gets around that. But Pentium or higher, shouldn't be a …

Well, still it's a good outcome. Thanks to your tests we know that "just" swapping the cables gets the job done 😀 The next time I play around with a SB Pro 2 compatible card, I better check for this as well.

Getting there 😀 When you shut down into MS-DOS mode, do see the Areal driver being loaded? You can type SET and see if the Sound Blaster variable is set. But if I remember correctly the drivers do also install themselves for MS-DOS mode.

I did a review with my onboard Realtek chip a while ago: Sound Blaster X-Fi MB3 Review There is FEAR recording with ALchemy. Can be compared with this video: Creative ALchemy F.E.A.R. which is on a Sound Blaster Z.
