It was a case of a quick in and out. Booted Windows XP live from a CD, had Prime and sensor software on a USB and off it went 😀 I then used an older PSU which has a 35V rating on the 5V rail. Still, the voltages did also move quite a bit once the XP 3200+ got crunching.

I'm not much into electronics, but I keep an eye out for typical power issues such as checking the voltages under load, noticing stability or issues or seeing the machine shut down. I've never experienced this with Pentium III gear. The only time I saw voltages go to the extreme was when I used a …

I also never tried it myself. Anandtech has a write up about it, and I haven't come across anything that made be think it doesn't work 😀

It's a PITA. No those wall socket things won't work. They would only show you the total for all rails. You would need to attach an ammeter to each individual rail to know what a specific rail uses. PCBONEZ you seem to know about this stuff. How would one go about measuring the power draw on the rails? Are these gadgets that you plug into the wall good enough?

Not what I'm seeing. The CPU maybe 25W, the HDD just 5W and the V5, which is an extreme case, maybe 30W as well. If my memory doesn't let me down, the Velocity 100 is a Voodoo 3 2000 with 1 TMU disabled in OpenGL and Glide games and only 8 MB of memory. The Velocity 200 I believe is the same thing, but with 16 MB of memory. Yours does have 8 memory chips instead of the usual 4, so it could well be a 16 MB …
