Went from S3 Trio 64 V+, then added a V1 (in a P133). Then got a PII and got a V2. Then took a break from computing for 4 years and picked up with a P4 and Radeon 9800 😀

There are S775 boards with AGP. I think these are as good as it gets. Then there are also S775 PCIe boards, and they take the late Pentium 4 chips like Cedar Mill. IMO be happy with the 3000/512/800 Pentium 4. If what you're doing needs more performance, then it's time to move to something newer :) …

As said above, Benq gaming monitors can do what the OP asked. They mention the scaling feature on the product pages. And in the thread linked, someone took photos of his Benq as evidence 😀

One comment, and I should have mentioned this earlier, is that X-Fi cards came out later in PCIe version. IMO they are less troublesome than PCI cards. There are reports of PCI cards popping whereas PCIe do not. I don't know because I always went PCIe, got two X-Fi Titanium PCIe cards :) One …

Nice! Yes for benchmarking always disable V-sync. The ATI drivers are great for this, perfect V-sync control in the drivers.

The few 1280x1024 monitors (new) on the market, all seem to be business models, and are very conservative with no scaling options. Not sure why the issue with widescreen monitors, Windows 98 can support it just fine, depending on the graphics card. So you will have a proper 1080p or whatever you're …
