I've been adding a 2nd internal hard drive to my retro builds for 1:1 backing up data and OS images. 3 down 1 to go. Data transfer will still be by FDD/CD/USB/external HD but now I'll be a able to quickly make and maintain complete copies of everything without resorting to these slow alternatives. …

jesolo post is very helpful. I believe the issues lies with having swapped the card, but leaving the drivers from the previous card. 3.4 GHz, especially Northwood, might be a bit harder to find. The 3 or 3.2 are much easier. Doesn't have to be the top CPU. Anything CPU bound, like games at low resolutions, should show a difference in CPU performance. Old 3D Marks can also work. And anything that supports CPU rendering, for …

If you're getting "Unable to find Sound driver", that means the game can't communicate with the MPU401 MIDI interface. So it's not an issue with the MT-32. The game should work, even with no MT-32 connected.
