I'm planning on just jumping straight to a PCIe system, preferably a Core 2 Duo or maybe a Athlon II system. Easier to work with and so many more graphics card options. I haven't seen a decent 6800GT on eBay for anything close to reasonable so I will just pass and go with something like a 9600GT …

That card doesn't have the required hardware. The game sort of works in some parts, but it's very glitchy and not correct. I'm now worried you give others new hope and they waste precious hours in trying to get something going that simply doesn't work 🤣

Just change the texture quality one lower than Ultra. But yea 1024 x 768 is a piece of cake for these cards it seems 😀 No Full HD screen lying around?

To separate your graphics card I recommend: - Force 16x AF in the Nvidia driver - Enable some form of AA in the game

Here my recapped card: Haven't found a good way to mount a cooler yet. With the Molex power I found that one card wanted the Molex connector that is closest to the PSU.

Yes the AGP 6600GT uses the bridge chip. The recap I did on the Point Of View card made it work on another board but I will never find out it was the recap that got it going or changing the motherboard. I would also agree that the AGP 6600GT can be a bit picky and odd.

As mentioned, it is on a game-per-game basis. Study change logs of driver releases and see if your game is mentioned. I like to use a driver that's a few months to a year newer than the game. If the old drivers don't give you v-sync option for benchmarking I just use PowerStrip.

The heat-sink as such is pretty decent, but the lack of airflow is the real issue. I just put a 120 mm fan next to it and that takes care of business. The back doesn't have to be cooled when the front gets airflow, at least this is my experience.
