Epoxy is the way to go. It's a bit trickier to apply than super glue, but produces better results. The trick with epoxy base glues is to use as little as possible.

Over the years the components that have failed me the most are without a doubt CD-ROM and hard disk drives. Other than that only PSUs have failed spontaneously, but a lot less than the other two types of components.

The 440BX IDE controller only supports UDMA2, and I'd like get full UDMA6 speed from my SSDs. (still waiting for the 44-pin adapters to arrive, so I'm testing with normal HDDs now.) The slowest CPU supported by DOS 6.22 should be the 8086 5MHz. It's possible that it just doesn't like low MHz numbers in CPUs, even though that 486 should be way faster than even a 8086 at 10MHz. There is a 286 at 4MHz which should work with DOS, so it's possible that some part of the OS is looking …

That's interesting. I just noticed that most (all?) Compaq Deskpros (no matter what year they're from) that don't have the floppy drive openings embedded in the front bezel have a floppy drive in one of the 5,25" external drive bays. I guess that's a Deskpro thing.
