Re: Anybody own a house?

in Milliways
And about the bank owning... that's not the point of my questions. I'm asking for thoughts and tips when moving from an apartment, to a house. Things you might think of, that I might overlook. Things that happened to you, that I should think of. Overall this thread has been very helpful! My reply …

Oh, and about radon. It doesn't matter if you have solid concrete or not, it's radiation and comes through everything. Radon is a gas. It's dangerous because it can be inhaled and emit alpha particles within the lungs, and because it decays rapidly into solids which can accumulate in the …

And... district heating? Here we get water and electricity, but all houses are independant for the heating. The area to be covered is just too large and heat would be lost with the distance. How does it work on your side? What is the substance that gets heated then sent in everyone's homes? Yeah, I …

Re: Regarding a dog...

It would create a lot of stress for the dog if you now remove it from your family. When found, it was so young that I doubt it has any connection to the previous owner and considers you part of the pack. Most likely the dog would suffer should you separate it from the people who cares for it. I know …

Basements: 1: Flooding risk. 2: Check radon levels. 3: Check for critters. Solid advice here, especially the radon levels as it's usually overlooked. Make sure the A/C work as well. It should keep the air quality higher and also lessen the moisture, mold etc. Also make sure the whole house is …

A few more from my list. I'm not too far from filling one-and-a-half bookcases, at which point it'll be one in, one out. http://i.imgur.com/cUwGWjFl.jpg Does the Fade to Black box variation come from EU/US releases? I have the one with the axe blade shape, like this: http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Fade-To- …

Re: Technology that fascinated you, but ultimately flopped

The fact that the PC took over means that all home computers around that time flopped. It's the same market: computers aimed at consumers. PC wasn't even designed to be a home/game computer, wasn't priced to be a home/game computer, but apparently, it managed to make all home/game computers go out …

My point is that although the Amiga was known and loved by 'connoisseurs' for its capabilities, it never dominated the market of home/personal computers, and eventually Commodore went out of business, because of their products being a commercial (not technical) failure. If you're talking about the …

A 95' 3000GT/GTO MR? That thing is gorgeous. Think I've seen just two in Uruguay from two guys who own a car tuning shop near my city, but that's still kind of a one in a thousand case since we probably have (tax related) the most expensive cars in all the world. Ahh, joys and wonders of living in …

Please tell me your lives aren't as grey as the color and interior of those cars? Reliability can't be a valid reason to buy a car unless you're a pensioner who has already lost the will to live. Driving should either be a fun and active way to transport yourself (as fast as possible) or a soothing …

Re: What do you drive?

It's really hard to say for sure. I know that before WW2 most cars were american and only in the 50's and 60's did we get cars from the east and rest of the Europe. Many taxis between 1950-1980 were american as you could get some sort of tax deduction when the car was not privately owned. For that …

I wouldn't say it's "cool to drive" this anywhere in 2016. More likely people would say "why aren't you driving a Hybrid? or a small town car". It just saddens me to see that we seem to be one of the few EU countries where you can still see Sebrings, Aspens and Chevy Vans on a daily basis. I'm glad …

Re: Most underrated games?

I'll start with Knights of the Sky by Microprose (1990). One of my favorites too. There is one thing that bothers me though. Did this game have an elaborate copy protection that kept spawning enemy fighters on your tail? I had the cracked version of this on Amiga and I remember it being pretty hard …

Infernal Machine should be a big box anyhow as it was released in -99. I know that Operation Flashpoint was one of the first DVD case games I ever bought and it was summer -01. I'm sure there were a few others before that. Even Daikatana was a big box and it came out in -00.
