I thought -- -- or 0000 meant something more serious I have been trying to repair a 386 board that gives ---- or sometimes 00-- and the IRDY light doesnt light up. Had given up hope on it. It could, there are many reasons for it, power failure on the board is one of them. I had a working P54C board …

I'm pretty sure I had a P60 minitower but no. Radeon 9800 pro, Voodoo 2 and other cards seem to be "somewhere". I sometimes find missing audio and graphics cards on systems I forgot I put them in. I should probably make a spreadsheet for all the stuff.

And you're 100% sure that you scraped out the correct solder spots for the battery wires and the connection is solid? Did you measure the voltage from the solder spots to make sure it's OK? The error might disappear once you get to BIOS to change and save current settings.

Very nice haul! Amazing the amount of boxed stuff :thumbsup: Thanks. The motherboards (386,486) are mostly new. Just spent an evening clipping away the batteries. Good thing that they were stacked horizontally rather than vertically as the acid hadn't spread from the battery ends. I'll post more …

Have you tried different memory combinations too? 2 x 64 etc? Maybe a problem with the memory socket? And pressing F1 (or whatever it is, screen cuts off the key in your post) doesn't let you enter BIOS? You should press it a few times right after boot to make sure the startup sequence doesn't go …

What does the BIOS show for boot sequence and has it found the HDD? I presume the dead CR battery has been changed?
