Re: Latest PCI vga with bridge chips opinions

Interesting even if at the end still it seems like these PCI card can't quite fit into any target. As retrogaming on this card linux seems to performs much better than a modern win o.s. but in the GUI win drivers works better and much smoother but retrogames as tested runs slower. Newer games are …

Re: 32-Bit is dead

So it is exactly like BIOS used to be as well. Buggy and exploitable. I think in the past it has been more a myth than a real problem. It's not rare old bios is even "difficult" to update using official tool and on minimal o.s boot where a different official version could not work on the many …

Re: Latest PCI vga with bridge chips opinions

This PCI GT610 has 810Mhz for the GPU, 1334Mhz for the DDR3 (512MB) memory and 1620Mhz for the shaders. Strangely other similar cards like the GT210 PCI I have with a different bridge do work with the dynamic scaling but this one might be factory fixed by the card bios on these value and even in a …

Re: Latest PCI vga with bridge chips opinions

In 3DMark03 the score is still higher, 6980 on linux/wine vs 5379 on 8.1. Single tests are a bit different.. Mother Nature tests reach 50 fps vs 24.6 fps of the Win test clearly much smoother at first once the camera goes to the trees the difference is very visible. Here PS 2.0 test is much faster …

Re: Latest PCI vga with bridge chips opinions

I write the score to make it fast (GT610 PCI and Linux x64/Wine 5.x vs same GT610 PCI on Win 8.1 x64, proprietary drivers) 3DMark05 Score: 3535 (vs 2080 of Win) GT1 - Return to Proxicon: 15.2 fps (vs 12.0 fps of Win 8.x) GT2 - Firefly Forest: 7.9 fps (vs 5.6 fps) GT3 - Canyon Flight: 23.4 fps (vs …

Re: Latest PCI vga with bridge chips opinions

Some update on a new test I'm doing. Considering the problems I had with the GT610 PCI and Win 8.1 (only in accelerated GUI not games, some artifacts like post-rendering white short lines) and I don't think related to a faulty GPU or memory because in another mainboard the card worked ok, I tried on …

Re: Is Cirrus Logic CL-GD5426 VLB any good?

I never tried the 5426 but I tried the faster and more advanced engine of the 5429 and compared to the ISA same version and also obviously thank to the 80486 (even DX2) the jump was impressive in every games. VLB together with a 486 make a great msdos machine even if there're probably even better …

Re: What graphics card for a Pentium II 400?

I prefers time correct cards balanced to the CPU, so why not a good old Savage 4 maybe the fastest version? I know there're many other faster ones but the Pentium II really is old for having a sense with some FX or whatever other agp cards none would have nearly ever used into those systems if still …
